
SAIGON YEAR OF THE CAT (1983)
Directed by Stephen Frears (The Grifters Dangerous Liasons High Fidelity) for British television this moving and emotionally complex wartime drama is set in the final days before the fall of Saigon in 1975. Academy Award-winning actress Dame Judi Dench portrays Barbara Dean a loan officer at a British bank in Saigon fending off the romantic advances of a prejudiced co-worker (Roger Rees) and an American Embassy employee (Wallace Shawn) she meets and falls in love with a CIA operative (Frederic Forrest) trying to convince his disbelieving superiors (Josef Sommers and E.G. Marshall) of the imminent invasion by the Vietcong.
